Is Elvis still the King After 40 years, maybe not so much

Is Elvis still the King After 40 years, maybe not so much Is Elvis still the King? After 40 years, maybe not so much Forty years ago today, Elvis Presley died in his Memphis, Tenn., home. The man dubbed “the King of Rock ’n’ Roll” continues to sell records to collectors and lifelong fans. It’s estimated that 10 million Elvis Presley albums were sold just last year. Some estimates place his total album sales at more than a billion. But the question of exactly how strongly he is influencing today’s artists generates mixed responses from musicians and others in the region. Ellensburg-based Mark Pickerel, whose resume includes credits with big names in ’90s rock — including Screaming Trees, Nirvana and beyond — said Presley’s influence endures only to a certain degree and in indirect ways that are difficult to pinpoint on a whole new generation of music.
